What are Reading Circles? 2017-05-19T07:11:07+00:00

Vocal T.R.A.C.K.’s Reading Circles, created by Christian and Noemi Grasso, are for the emerging and developing reader (Age 12 and under).

Our Reading Circles foster and stimulate the following:

  • Abstract Thinking.
  • Cognition (e.g. Memory Recall).
  • Interest in Reading.
  • Literacy (e.g. Comprehension, Vocabulary, etc.).
  • Perspective-Taking.
  • Problem Solving.
  • Receptive & Expressive Language.
  • Reciprocal Dialogue.
  • Socialization.
  • Task & Topic Maintenance.
  • Vocabulary.
  • Whole Body Listening and more.

Reading Circles occur every Saturday, year-round, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM (60 min.).

Depending on ability, age and needs, children are divided into separate Reading Circles that occur in each of Vocal T.R.A.C.K.’s therapy suites.  Groups range from small to large.

Licensed and Clinically Certified Speech & Language Pathologists lead each group in developmentally appropriate reading activities.

A story is read to participants.  Thereafter, the clinician interacts with each child by asking a variety of abstract, open-ended “Wh” and “How” Questions.

Complexity of questions are tailored to age of the children and developmental abilities.  For example, typically developing older readers are asked to come up with a relevant title for the story, determine the main idea from imbedded contextual clues, predict outcomes, summarize the story, etc.  Younger readers are asked less complex questions.

If requested, Vocabulary activities can be incorporated into a Reading Circle.

Reading activities can also be presented in Spanish by Noemi Grasso, M.S., CCC-Speech & Language Pathologist.

For further inquiries, including COST, please contact Christian Grasso, M.S., CCC-Speech & Language Pathologist at (858) 521-8446.
